The Award-Winning Walnut MagSafe Charger: Inside the Design of the ZenStand

A few days ago, we shared the exciting news that Futura Gear took home the Silver Award at the 2026 NY Product Design Awards for the ZenStand Magnetic 3-in-1 Wireless Charger. We are still buzzing from the win! But instead of just celebrating the trophy, we wanted to pull back the curtain and share why we built our premium wood wireless charger the way we did.

When we first sat down to sketch out the ZenStand, we looked at the current landscape of charging stations and noticed a problem: most of them are treated as disposable, plastic accessories that you want to hide behind a book or under a desk.

We asked ourselves: What if a wood MagSafe charger felt less like tech, and more like a piece of your home?

Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the design decisions that brought the ZenStand to life—and caught the eyes of the global award judges.

Tech That Feels Like Furniture

In a category dominated by cold, metal-heavy enclosures and glossy plastics, we wanted the ZenStand to feel warm, calm, and inviting. We gave it a minimalist, architectural form designed to live out in the open—whether on a nightstand, a shared workspace, or an entryway table.

The standout feature? The base is crafted from real wood, making it a truly unique walnut MagSafe charger. Not only is this a renewable, natural material, but it actually ages gracefully over time, encouraging you to keep it for years rather than replacing it when the next trend hits. We paired the wood with a calm CMF (Color, Material, Finish) palette, utilizing a matte, soft-touch body that reduces glare and fingerprints. It simply feels comfortable to interact with.

The "Zero-Disturbance" Rule

There is nothing worse than trying to sleep while a charger’s LED indicator lights up your room like a laser beam, or listening to the hum of a tiny cooling fan.

We engineered the ZenStand with a strict “zero-disturbance” approach. No bright indicator lights. No fan noise. Just a quiet, calm experience that respects your sleep and work environments. Furthermore, we designed the heavy base of this wood wireless charger with a hyper-focus on stability. It stays firmly planted when you pick up or set down your phone, which prevents frustrating shifting and accidental drops.

Sustainability Through Consolidation

A huge part of modern design is sustainability, but we believe that goes beyond just the materials you use—it’s also about what your product replaces.

The ZenStand is built to consolidate your daily clutter. By combining two distinct phone charging zones with dedicated Apple Watch support, our wood MagSafe charger eliminates the need for three separate wall bricks, a mess of tangled cables, and redundant plastic charging stations. It does more, while using less.

Finally, when your ZenStand arrives at your door, it ships in recyclable, paper-based packaging. We stripped out as much plastic as possible to ensure that from the moment you open it, you are stepping into a simpler, quieter, and more sustainable relationship with your everyday tech.
